Recent Activity

Standstill by Ben Foster

Standstill at Art in a Garden

Standstill continues to be a popular piece and has evolved from when first created in 2006. Recently changes in texture have distorted the reflection and added depth to the piece. Standstill perfectly mirrors my creative practice, it is dramatic yet refined, with an emphasis on quality and finish and a strong environmental ethic. The fourth and final work of the edition is due for installation in the UK.

Windswept by Ben Foster (2011)

Mr 4 with Peacemaker (2009)

Mr. 4 with Peacemaker is inspired by the iconic Mr. 4 Square man juxtaposed with contemporary images; instruments of war and terror. With his bright colours and friendly face Mr. 4 represents the innocence of childhood and yet his very benignness gives this character a greater sense of menace when combined with the "pacemaker" revolver.

Current Works in Progress

Over the past few months I have set up a studio and foundry in Kaikoura with my partner Ljana and am now able to produce castings in Aluminium and Bronze.

My current line of enquiry entitled "Wandering Lines" is inspired by the diverse Kaikoura environment and wildlife. The included image below entitled "Wandering lines" explores the plight of the Albatross, no stranger to Kaikoura and the impact of commercial activities in the region.

Creative thoughts,
